Several junior members of Morecambe and District Junior Anglers attended Myerscough College open day on Sunday 5th June in order to promote themselves and the awareness of fishing as a hobby. The members offered advice and guidance on fishing to youngsters who had never tried angling before and most managed to catch a fish within five minutes of casting. The day was a great success for the club with plenty of interest, especially when Jamie (eleven) fought with a common carp for 30 minutes before landing it with the help of Honorary Chairman of the club, Ken Murray. Junior instructors James, Danny and Liam were a fantastic help on the day keeping the children and parents entertained with their knowledge and expertise.

Here at Morecambe & District Junior Anglers we teach young people how to enjoy angling and how to look after the environment.
We have our own lake, HorseshoeLake at DockerPark Farm near Carnforth, which is strictly for members and their guests only!
We teach the country code, how identify and look after different species of fish. We have numerous bird and bat boxes at our lake and soon we will have lots of hedgehog houses. We have a variety of native trees, wild flowers and fruits which all help to encourage wildlife to make a home and thrive at our lake.
MAD strongly encourage families to visit our lake, we have made various provision including hot drinks facilities, a toilet and a picnic area.
MAD are a non-profit making voluntary group based in the North Lancashire/ South Lakes area and receive no government funding. We rely totally on donations to keep operating. If you would like to help us by becoming a volunteer or would like to make a donation please email the club at the above email address.
We have rescued various animals since we started the club. We have taken in a rehoused 2 ducks, 1 chicken and a hedgehog. We place food at the lake for our hedgehogs, we have put various bird and bat boxes on trees to encourage them to make a home there, we have log piles and wildflowers to encourage insects.
We need some bright ideas for fundraising, so please let us know if you think of anything.
Do any parents want to join the committee?
Get in touch if you do. New ideas, and offers of help are always welcome.
